Child Safety Alert: Some types of Roman and Roll-Up Shades are being recalled after reports of babies and toddlers dying from strangulation, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced December 15th, 2009. This applies to some Retail window coverings, window coverings manufactured before 2001, and any product that has a looped or long lift cord without safety features. If you have small children in your home and are worried about the safety of your window coverings, call us. We have retrofit safety components in our shop and can help. Retrofit kits can also be ordered for free from the Window Covering Safety Council, http://www.windowcoverings.org/index.html

Retail establishments are also offering retrofit safety kits and specific product recalls, call for availabilty and the information at your store:

Every product we sell and install has child safety features. These include:

Cordless Shades: This is the best option for people with small children in their homes. Cordless lift systems are now available for wood blinds as well as honeycombs and other lighter shades.

Motorized Shades: Most of our window coverings can be motorized with a battery powered motor, no wiring required.

Lift Systems with a self-retracting cord: These lift systems, such as Ultra-Glide or Tru Rise from Hunter Douglas, automatically retract the cord when the shade is lifted, keeping the cord short, eliminating unsafe long cord pooling.

Break-Away Loops: Continuous chain lift systems that are designed to break open when the weight of a baby's head is applied.

Cord Tensioners: Cord tensioners keep the looped lift cords taught, eliminating the risk of a loose loop hanging low. This is an easy fix for continuous cord lift systems that are not break-away.

Cord Cleats: Designed for use with standard cordlock lift systems: Cord cleats keep the cord safely to the wall, out of a child's reach. Another easy retrofit fix for any window covering with non-retractable cords.

Wand Controls: Many window coverings that feature cord lift systems can be ordered with wand controls instead.
